So should you buy Tesla (TSLA) or NIO (NIO) stock
Our advise would be to sit on the sidelines right now. These stocks have run up a very long way, and while they are at the front line of the electric vehicle sector, competition from old combustion engine competition is coming thick and fast. All the major vehicle manufacturers are bringing out more and more electric vehicles. And these firms already have the manufacturing capabilities to produce a large number of vehicles, which is something both Tesla and NIO is struggling with. Both Tesla and NIO are selling cars as fast as they can build them. But therein lies its problem. It cant build cars fast enough as their production capabilities are very limited if compared to more mainstream vehicle manufacturers.
If you already own the stock, no harm in holding for the long term, but expect additional declines over the short to medium term. If you looking to buy, sit on the side lines as you might be able to buy these stocks at cheaper. If you hold and worry about further declines, perhaps reduce your position and look to get back in at a cheaper price, while at the same time keeping exposure should these stocks defy the odds and increase sharply again.
